Vegetable and fruits are important sources of human nutrition however, per capita consumption in Nepal is almost below than recommended Level. The major reasons behind this is due to limited availability of the commodities exacerbated by inadequate domestic production.
Because of the insufficient domestic production, Nepal has been investing huge amount of money for the imports of these commodities, mainly the fruits. Among number of factors responsible for the low production, acquisition of knowledge is the key to adopt improved technology. Number of Governmental (GOs) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) has been involved in the improved production through various programs. In present governance system, weak planning is realized in the front level of administrative Preface units such as Palika and Municipalities.
The students and faculties in these levels need the study materials written in Nepalese situation. They may Serve as reference materials in the trade schools of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), colleges and University. It is also hoped this book will be useful to various levels of readers working as progressive farmer, technicians, extension and personnel working in various NGO and INGOs. Also, this will be useful to the university students. With these expectations, this book has been prepared and republished as a second edition, where there could be errors. Suggestions are therefore highly welcome for the improvement in further editions.
